What is the difference between TPE and TPR?
Thermo-plastic rubber Thermo-plastic elastomer TPE The thermoplastic elastomer TPE in a broad sense includes styrene thermoplastic elastomers SBC, SEBS, SBS, SIS, SEPS, SEEPS and other copolymers and their blends modified elastomers.
In order to distinguish the difference between the two, the manufacturers use TPE with SEBS as the basic material modifier and TPR with SBS as the basic material modifier. Basically, TPE and TPR are no different. When choosing what kind of material, one should not struggle with TPE or TPR. Only the performance requirements of the product need to be given, and the material supplier will customize according to the requirements.
The basic formula of TPE-coated ABS material is SEBS+ grafted SEBS+TPU+ white oil+auxiliary agent+filler. The specific proportion is adjusted according to the actual cost and required effect. TPU (70-85A polyester type is recommended) 45-60%, high molecular weight SEBS 30-40%, according to hardness adjustment, graft SEBS1901 ratio is 5%, stearic acid additive is less than 0.5%, other processing additives are 0.5%, antioxidant is 0.1%, filler is about 5%.
TPE coating
From the above formula, we can see that SEBS substrate is used in the encapsulated ABS material and SEBS substrate is also used in the formulation of the encapsulated PP material. SEBS has better aging resistance, crack resistance and high temperature resistance than SBS, and the surface feel of SEBS modified TPE is smoother. SBS substrate is not used as the encapsulating material, and SBS is used in many fake encapsulating materials in the market, so the price is low. Therefore, if you must distinguish between TPE and TPR, then the manufacturer can only reply that you are made of TPE. It's just that each manufacturer has a different name.
